Coed-Y-Mwstwr Golf Club Junior Strategy Plan

The Junior Section of Coed Y Mwstwr golf Club is an integral part of the membership structure of the club. The section is managed by a Junior Organiser, who is a volunteer, and is fully integrated into the Golf Club.

Coed-Y-Mwstwr Golf club is fully committed to the Welsh Golfing Union Charter and proactively adheres to the Child Protection Policy. The Junior Organiser has been Police Checked to ensure the safety of the junior members of Coed-Y-Mwstwr Golf club.

Our strategy for the development of the junior members, and of the junior section are as follows: -
1. Low membership fees.
2. Recruitment & retention of junior golfers.
3. PGA Professional links.
4. No restrictions of access to tee times.
5. Entry of juniors with CONGU handicaps to adult competitions.
6. Links with low handicap golfers.
7. Encouragement for Caddying for low handicap golfers in National and County Events.
8. Junior mentoring scheme.
9. Awareness of Health & Safety risks both on and off the course.
10. Golf Foundation Merit Award Scheme.
11. Junior Competitions & Matches.
12. Junior facilities. (Development of junior room etc.)
13. Financial support from Coed-Y-Mwstwr Golf club for entry into both local & national competitions, this includes entry fees & expenses.
14. Child Protection Policy.
15. Welsh Golfing Union Charter.
16. Glamorgan County Coaching Scheme.
17. Liaison with local schools.
18. Golf Foundation Starter Centre Initiative.
19. Free transport to all venues.
20. Funding from The Ladies Golfing Union for coaching.
21. Junior girl mentoring.

Successes achieved to date are: -
1. Two junior golfers turned professional. (Royal Porthcawl & St.Mary's)
2. Club champion 1998 was a junior.
3. Junior successes in national junior events.
4. Coed y Mwstwr, 2001 Glamorgan Club Handicap champions, one member of the team was a junior.
5. Successful junior team.
6. Junior girl in Glamorgan County 2nd Team.
7. Junior member won an internal boarded event.

Membership Fees & Levies
Junior members of Coed-Y-Mwstwr Golf Club pay reduced membership fees whilst they are in full time education. This also applies to young people who take up apprenticeships. Junior golfers are excluded from payment of any club levies.
The rates that currently apply are listed below.

AGE FEE (Under Review)
Up to 18 Years - £60
18 - 21 Years - £75
Up to 25 Years - Annual incremental increases to full fee.

Recruitment & Retention
Coed-Y-Mwstwr Golf club has no restriction on the age of junior golfers and there is no restriction on the number of Junior members. New junior members are given an induction course when they join. This covers the following topics:
Club rules
Rules of Golf & etiquette
Junior handicapping system
Health & Safety (both on & off course)
Junior matches & competitions
Coaching

There are very few restrictions on junior golfers with regards to tee times. Junior competitions are organised on a regular basis and the juniors have a section night every Monday with the first tee booked for them between 5pm & 5.30pm.(This timing is the same as for other club sections on other nights.)

The Coed-Y-Mwstwr junior team competes in the Glamorgan County league.

Junior golfers from Coed-Y-Mwstwr are encouraged to participate in coaching schemes organised by Glamorgan County Golf Union on an annual basis.

Coed-Y-Mwstwr Golf club is in liaison with local schools to provide a way for school children to learn about golf through special events organised at a convenient time for both school and Coed-Y-Mwstwr Golf club.

Relationship with Adults
Juniors with a CONGU handicap are encouraged to enter adult competitions.
Adult & Junior competitions are held to encourage a better relationship within Coed-Y-Mwstwr Golf Club.
Junior members regularly caddy for low handicap golfers who are representing both Coed-Y-Mwstwr Golf Club & Glamorgan County in national & local competitions.
Coed-Y-Mwstwr Golf Club encourages the formation of a junior mentoring scheme to educate & coach juniors in the rules of golf, etiquette & progression of their game.
Juniors are actively encouraged to help with club competitions and will assist in ball spotting, updating the leader board and entering scores in the computer during major competitions.

Coed-Y-Mwstwr Golf Club & individual members sponsor the Juniors in the following areas:
Free transport to all venues
Free practice balls
Free Club tie (when representing C-Y-M)
Free team meals (when representing C-Y-M)
Prizes for Competitions
Financial support for entry to local & national competitions
Financial support for expenses when competing in local & national competitions
Special junior meals during holiday periods

Development
As a result of the proposed developments to the golf course and the clubhouse, Coed Y Mwstwr Golf Club will provide facilities specific to the Junior Section, where juniors will have their own area to relax before and after playing golf. This area will have a television, radio and will be off limits to other members of Coed-Y-Mwstwr Golf club.

The PGA professional Paul Thomas is linked to the Golf club and provides golf lessons to all members. He is actively involved in providing a starter lesson for all new junior members.

Coed-Y-Mwstwr Golf club will seek to become a Golf Foundation Starter Centre and is actively seeking to establish itself in the Golf Foundation Merit Award Scheme.

Junior captains are educated in presentations & post match speaking.
