Home Course
The characteristics of the golf course can quite easily be split between the two nines. The opening nine holes are not particularly long, but narrow fairways and tricky greens place the emphasis on accuracy as opposed to length. The undulating terrain will mean that you will rarely have a perfectly flat lie for your approach shot unless you have carefully selected your club from the tee. The golfer who keeps it on the straight and narrow and does not take unnecessary risks will find themselves rewarded with a good start to their round. Those who decide to attack the course with driver may well find themselves searching for balls in the trees or the tiger rough.
When you get to the back nine, length is more of an advantage. The fairways are a little wider and only the really off line drive will find the tree lines. The greens are a little larger but they have more subtle breaks which brings its own difficulty. The par fives are reachable in two, where conditions are favourable, but trouble awaits the reckless. The course requires the all round game to return a good score. It is the tactician who returns the results. Caution is rewarding yet those who enjoy a ‘slog’ should wait until the back nine. The real card wreckers that should be given some respect are the 2nd, which although downhill may still require a driver; the 7th which has been tightened and lengthened over the years, with two new bunkers and a ditch ready to catch the driver and out of bounds over the back of the green finally the 9th which has out of bounds left and right and a pond on the right hand of the landing area.
