Charity Days
Over the last 15 years, through the hard work of the officers of the club, over £60,000 has been raised for local and national charities. This year we have; The JFB Memorial on the 10th July. This memorial tournament is played in the memory of Mr. Jan Bekker. Affectionately known as ‘Mr Coed-Y-Mwstwr’, a former pro football star, Jan was a true friend and our unofficial ‘meeter and greeter’, he was taken from us on Boxing Day 2007, following a round of golf here at the club. The first JFB Memorial raised over £5000 for local charities that are close to the hearts of Jan’s family. It is hoped that this Memorial Day will become an annual event at the Club.
The Steve Midgley Day will be held on the 7th August. Steve was a member of Coed-y-Mwstwr for over 10 years: with the help of his family he ran an annual Golf Day for the benefit of local charities. Well respected as a local business Steve easily filled his day with enthusiastic members of the building and construction industry. Tragically Steve was diagnosed with Motor Neurone Disease and was taken from us following a brave battle with this debilitating illness. His Charity Day continues and moneys now raised are directed towards research into Motor Neurone.
The David Smith Halletts Benefit Day took place on the 25th and 26th. These Charity events are open to all golfers and we welcome applications through the website. The events are played in teams of 4. Anyone wishing to take part in these events should e-mail the office for more information.
